Week 2 has ended, and somehow I am still alive

Week 2, I have made it through. How, I have no clue, but all that matters now is that I have a 3 day weekend. A a margarita.

The past week was every adjective rolled into one: horrible, amazing, terrifying, chaotic, stressful, hot, uncomfortable, uplifting, touching, scary, embarrassing, etc.etc. So much happens in one day, one class period, one minute of class that I cannot possibly explain all that I have done this week. I heard some study that teachers make more on-the-spot decisions then any other profession. We are constantly problem solving, from, "I need a pencil sharpener," to "What does, 'academic' mean?" (thank you 9th graders), to "My parents have been fighting and I want to run away." That is my week in a nut shell.

I wish I had the energy to write down everything that has happened, but really, I don't have any drop of juice to spare. So I will leave you with a final pet peeve of mine that I have developed: TMSINFEC (Text message slang is not for English Class). Basically today in my class (since we are still just B.S.ing lesson plans since I get new kids every day), we talked about text messaging and how some people (including myself) believe that text messaging is ruining academic reading and writing for the current generation of kids. I compiled a list of Text-message terms and slang that my kids use ALL THE TIME in my English class; My kids write how they talk. Here are some of the most common misspelled words or text message slang that kids use in my class when they write: cuz (because), LOL (laugh out loud), BTW (between, but for my generation it means by the way), dat (that), koo (cool), tite (tight), aint (are not), alltou (although), plz (please), shet (shit), da (the), 2 (to), be4 (before), and many many many many more, ext (ect.) That is why I created my own lingo, "TMSINFEC" (Text message slang is not for English Class) to make them realize how ridiculous their habits are. This is going to be a long year....
