Stream of consciousness.....

Week 1 is done.

What can I say about week one?
Other then I'm glad its done.
Exhaustion has seeped into my veins
and in my feet are many pains
Tell me now I can run away
too late
I must stay.

Random thoughts.....

I am so exhausted. My body hurts. My feet hate shoes. I am running on 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night, from 6-5pm. WTF mate. My students are like semi-caged animals. Today I had to throw out my lesson plan and improve for 40 minutes. My voice is gone. I smell. I hate grammar and hate teaching it that much more.

My students M and H come in every day during break to hang out. M is always asking for things to do around my room. From moving books to cleaning boards, she just wants to help. H doesn't know English and he is shy (even though he is over 6 ft), but we are going to work on it. The trouble maker J in my 4th period turned into a leader during one of our after school activities. He helped the class complete their task in record time.

I called my student's parents and had to speak Spanish (you all know that I don't know how to speak Spanish). I don't know what I'm doing. J took my bathroom/hall pass and "accidentally lost it." Until it returns, no one can use the bathroom. Oakland is so ghetto. I don't even have time to go to the bathroom. I have never read the books that I am teaching. I have student's who do not know English. At all. It is the weekend and all I can think about is my class. I am a work-a-holic.

My roommates are amazing. They are my closest friends here. They are the only ones who understand me and what I am going through. My feet smell so bad. I love Yogurtland. My family is my life support. I wake up to chickens clucking every morning. I want to go back to college. I love the Berkeley Marina because it makes me feel like I am on an island in the ocean. I need to learn Spanish. When is this going to get easier?

  1. Put baking soda in your shoes or you can soak your feet in vinegar.... Put spanish audio on your iPod and take it with you when you're walking / working out / etc. There are entertaining and benificial Podcasts on iTunes you can download that will be more specific to what specific words you need to communicate about school and family.
